This Friday, France will be taking on Germany in the first World Cup quarterfinal. This is a match that is ridiculously delicious on paper, but could be even better on the field. Both teams have world-class talent, phenomenal coaching and the resources needed to be victorious. However, there will only be one winner at the end of the match.

Germany enjoys playing in a 4-2-3-1 as their wingbacks push up to help the midfielders and the lone striker. The issue that they faced several times against Algeria was leaving their two center backs alone to deal with pressure on the counter. Whether it was underestimation or lazily deciding not to rush back into position, the Germans could have been bitten several times, but luckily the match ended 2-1 in their favor.

The Germans like to build up from the back or hit on the counter. They can orchestrate from the wings as well as straight down the middle. They are a pass-and-go type of team that can hold onto possession for minutes at a time. They can hurt any opponent by doing this, but once again, their weakest aspect is the defense.

France defeated Nigeria without facing nearly as much danger by a score of 2-0. Their playing style of a 4-3-3 works perfectly for the players who know how, when and where to make something happen on and off the ball. Their main attacking specialty is utilizing from the both wings as even the striker at times drifts wide or back to help out. They certainly make the best of these situations.

At times they are focused too much on building an attack that they almost forget about defending. This is where an opponent can hurt them as they do not leave a sufficient amount of assistance at the back. This can make all of their hard work mean nothing at the end of a game against a tough opponent.

Prediction: France 2, Germany 1.

Both teams will play tight defense, but their main focus will be to up the other offensively. At the end of the match, the French should win due to their superior attacking talent. Strikers and wingers should be able to create more than a bunch of great midfielders.
