Terence Blanchard and the Orchestre national de jazz de Montréal (7 p.m., Théâtre Maisonneuve of Place des Arts, $50 to $64). The distinguished trumpeter performs with his quintet before hooking up with the orchestra, which made its debut at last year’s edition of the jazz fest. Blanchard is expected to receive the festival’s Miles Davis Award, honouring international jazz artists for their body of work and influence, at the concert.

Coeur de pirate (8 p.m., Théâtre du Nouveau Monde, 84 Ste-Catherine St. W., $45.45). Brave-hearted Béatrice Martin brings her soundtrack for the Radio-Canada series Trauma — featuring stark covers of Tom Waits, the Stones, Patrick Watson and others — from the screen to the stage, in the first of three shows.

Coral Egan (8 and 10 p.m., Rio Tinto Alcan Stage, Ste-Catherine and Jeanne-Mance Sts., free). The Montreal vocalist’s repertoire has expanded further into the soul-pop realm while retaining the pure emotion that has characterized a lifetime devoted to song.

Violent Femmes (8:30 p.m., Metropolis, 59 Ste-Catherine St. E., $47.55). Whatever discord may remain between principals Gordon Gano and Brian Ritchie, it’s been buried deep enough to make last year’s reunion more than a brief fling. Thirty-one years after Blister in the Sun, the partnership endures, as does the universal chord struck by Gano’s neuroses.

Grace Kelly (10:30 p.m., Gesù — Centre de créativité, 1200 Bleury St., $45.35). A veteran performer at 22, the saxophonist has been praised by everyone from Lee Konitz to Wynton Marsalis. She returns to the festival in a quartet setting.
